BLACKOUT HITS
MAJOR PORTION OF GREATER LOS ANGELES
365 Main-LA Fully Prepared for Continuous Operation
SAN FRANCISCO, CA., September
12, 2005 – Los Angeles experienced a Blackout
at 12:30 p.m. PDT that impacted portions of the greater Los
Angeles area. Parts of the San Fernando Valley, Downtown Los
Angeles and West L.A. were involved. It was reported that
an accident at one of the DWP operating units caused the incident.
"It's a little scary that
a day after a terrorist threat, that this happened,"
said Chris Dolan, President and CEO of 365 Main. "It
underlines the fact that we have to be prepared to protect
our critical data, whether it's an accident, natural disaster
or something more sinister. There were undoubtedly losses
of data and information in that period that will affect business
for some time," Dolan said. "Little interruptions
can lead to major disruptions," Dolan added. "The
way we have designed our systems, any power anomaly longer
than 1/4 cycle would have initiated our Continuous Power Systems
to move off of utility and onto our own power generation plant."
In light of the tragedy in the
Gulf Coast, a 90-minute blackout is far from a disaster, but
portions of the Los Angeles economy came to a stop. "It's
tough to do lawyering when your computers aren't working,"
said an associate in one of the major firms in downtown LA.
Located on the 32nd floor in a Grand Avenue high rise, all
systems were down for some time. Elevators ceased to run and
the computer networks came to a standstill.
"365 Main-LA is in the business
of dealing with mission critical issues," Dolan said.
"With our newest location situated in El Segundo, we
could have easily protected the needs of a major portion of
the businesses affected by the blackout." 365 Main, headquartered
in San Francisco, recently acquired a 131,000 square foot
data center, expanding into Southern California and inaugurating
an aggressive plan to move across the U.S. For information
about available colocation space in El Segundo, call 877 365
